Client: Portakabin Ltd
Project: Large Two-Storey Modular Cabin – Pre-Assembly Phase
Location: Portakabin HQ, York
Service Provided by: ConneX Electrical
Scope: First Phase Containment Package – Galvanised Steel Conduit Installation
Overview
ConneX Electrical was instructed to deliver the first phase electrical containment system on a large two-storey modular cabin at their York facility. This package formed a critical component in streamlining the overall construction timeline by enabling major electrical works to be completed during the off-site pre-assembly stage.
Objectives
- Deliver a robust & comprehensive containment solution using galvanised steel conduit.
- Carry out installation during the off-site construction stage at Portakabin HQ.
- Ensure system alignment across modules to guarantee seamless final assembly.
- Minimise on-site downtime and accelerate project delivery for the client.
Our Solution
To meet these objectives, ConneX Electrical delivered a tailored containment package using galvanised steel conduit—selected for its durability, protection, and compliance with commercial standards. Our team worked collaboratively with Portakabin engineers and project managers to:
- Install all vertical and horizontal containment routes prior to cabin assembly, accounting for alignment across the two-storey modular structure.
- Coordinate with structural and modular build teams to integrate containment with minimal clash or retrofit requirement.
- Label and test all containment routes to ensure ready integration of cabling upon final installation phase.
Key Benefits to the Client
- Reduced On-Site Time: Major containment work completed off-site, enabling faster final installation on location.
- Improved Efficiency: Pre-installed conduits aligned with modular joins, minimising adjustments and labour during final assembly.
- Increased Quality Control: Factory-setting allowed greater control over workmanship and inspection.
- Enhanced Safety: Reduced number of high-risk containment activities on live construction site.
Outcome
The containment system was completed on schedule and to specification, enabling Portakabin to progress with the project and overall cabin installation more rapidly. ConneX Electrical’s earlyphase contribution played a pivotal role in reducing site-based delays and demonstrated the advantages of pre-assembled service integration in modular construction.
Conclusion
This project highlights ConneX Electrical’s expertise in pre-construction containment installations and our commitment to delivering efficient, high-quality electrical solutions tailored to modern modular building approaches.
